Marla Ruzicka
Marla Ruzicka, a young anti-war activist who had spent
ten years working on various human rights issues, began
a door-to-door survey of civilian casualties in Iraq the
day after Saddam Husseins statue was pulled down in
Baghdad. In response to the tragedy she observed, she founded
the Campaign for Innocent Victims in Conflict,
CIVIC, a humanitarian organization committed to helping
families of Iraqi and Afghan civilians who suffered loses
as a result of military operations. On April 16, 2005, at
the age of 28, she herself became a victim of the war when
she was killed in a car-bomb blast in Baghdad.
