Robert Redford
One of Hollywood's most revered actors, producers, and
directors, Robert Redford is also known as a prominent environmentalist
and champion of independent filmmaking. In 1981, Redford
founded the nonprofit Sundance Institute, which encourages
independent filmmaking, theater, and musical composition.
The institute's projects now include the cable TV Sundance
Channel, the influential Sundance Filmmakers/Screenwriters
Lab, and the Sundance Film Festival, which since its inception
in 1984 has revolutionized independent film's prominence.
Redford also is known for his Native American advocacy and
founded the environmental group Institute for Resource Management.
