Ron Kovic
Ron Kovic recounts the story of his journey from disillusioned
Vietnam veteran to leading antiwar activist in his best-selling
autobiography, Born on the Fourth of July, which was made
into an Academy Award-winning film by Oliver Stone. Kovic
grew
up in Massapequa, New York, and enlisted in the marines
after graduating from high school in 1964. After accidentally
killing a fellow serviceman in battle and later being seriously
wounded by enemy fire, he returned home a paraplegic. He
eventually overcame his experiences in battle and recovery
to become a leading veterans' rights activist who addressed
the 1976 Democratic National Convention.
